Protein Smoothie Round Up

Last Fall I decided I would try a 30-Day Accountability Challenge with that well known at-home workout program that girl from high school has been pestering you to join on Facebook. You know- the program she reluctantly tried herself a few months back, was amazed by the results, and just HAD to become a coach herself to help her friends and family realize their dreams of a healthy lifestyle.

Jokes aside, I had a long history of working out in front of my TV and was excited about having access to a library of workout videos. What I didn’t realize until I committed, was that I was going to be required to drink a protein shake every single day for 30 days.

I hate protein powder, and ultimately this was the third major reason I failed miserably at the challenge group. The first being no workout program compared to one by my girl Jill, and the second was how the company completely botched my protein order which resulted in a nearly $300 bill and the largest stockpile of protein powder on the planet.

I’ve gotten damn good at making protein smoothies that don’t suck. Here are a few of my favorite flavor combos for those days you are feelin’ that protein smoothie life, or if like me, you have a stock pile of ‘Accountability Protein’ you would feel guilty about throwing away.


Chocolate Raspberry Protein Smoothie
Actually delicious. I legitimately never thought protein could taste this good.


  • 2 Cups Almond Milk (unsweetened, vanilla flavor)
  • 1 Cup Frozen Raspberries (don’t waste precious fresh ones)
  • 1 scoop Chocolate Protein Powder


  • Blend all ingredients for 2-3 minutes on high
  • Serve in something to drink out of


Peaches and Cream Protein Smoothie
When you’re trying to quell a monster sugar craving. 


  • 1 ¾ cups Almond Milk (unsweetened, vanilla flavor)
  • ¼ cup Half and Half
  • 1 cup Frozen Peaches (or canned, or almost too ripe / fresh)
  • 1 scoop Vanilla Protein Powder


  • Blend all ingredients on high until smooth
  • Serve in something to drink out of with a dollop of whipped cream on top


Morning Jolt Protein Smoothie
For the morning exerciser wanting to check two things off at once.


  • 2 cups Fresh Brewed Coffee
  • 1 cup Almond Milk (unsweetened, vanilla flavor)
  • 1 tbsp Coconut Oil
  • 1 Scoop Café Latte Protein Powder


  • Blend on high until frothy
  • Serve in mug


Strawberry Protein Chugger
I understand just wanting to get protein over and done with. The lack of solid ingredients in this combo makes it easy to slam after a workout.


  • 2 cups Coconut Water (unsweetened, original)
  • 2 cups Almond Milk (unsweetened, no flavor)
  • 1 Scoop Strawberry Protein Powder


  • Blend all ingredients for 2-3 minutes on high
  • Serve in something to chug out of
